Yesterday, I emailed Allahpundit that “Jordanian” is almost always code for “Palestinian,” and to watch the word come up as the story unfolds.
Doctors from Iraq and Jordan were among the seven suspects arrested in the failed car bombings in London and at Glasgow’s airport, officials said Monday. A witness said police were closing in on the terror network just before attackers rammed the Scottish terminal building.
I was right.
One of the suspects arrested in Britain by police investigating three failed car bombings is a Jordanian surgeon, unnamed officials in Jordan said.
The officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said his wife had also been arrested.
The doctor is of Palestinian origin and carries a Jordanian passport, they said. He obtained his medical degree in Jordan.
Where else have Palestinians been trying to murder Brits? In Iraq, of course, where they also help train Iraqis in making bombs to kill Americans. These people are not our friends.
Omri caught it first, because one of us has to work for a living. And because today has been a very, very busy day work-wise.
An end-note: I’ve seen a few people make fun of the failed bombings (from both sides of the political spectrum), especially concentrating on what losers the bombers were because the bombs failed to go off. Perhaps our armchair quarterbacks should take a deep breath and thank God that the bombers screwed up the mixture necessary to create the kind of devastating bombs those might have been. Britain would be mourning hundreds today, possibly thousands, if those bombers had succeeded. I see nothing amusing about it.
I heard some nitwit on the radio this morning who did not know that the Brits refer to our deal intolerant friends from the Allahistic middle east as “Asians.” He thought that the miscreants were perhaps Chinese or Japanese or somethings other than what they were: enthusiasts of the pre-1500 world.
“In Iraq, of course, where they [Palestinians] also help train Iraqis in making bombs to kill Americans.”
I don’t think I’ve heard this claim before. Does anyone have a link to a news article? Thanks in advance.
I guess the mockers would call the 9/11 attacks “failures” because the Flight 93 hijacking failed.
How good to you think it is for their reputations amongst their fellow Jihadis to be mocked in the press and on the television?
I remember lauging at the first set of World Trade Center bombers when they got caught trying to get their deposit back for the truck they blew up.
That’s what keeps coming to mind when folks say there’s no need to take these guys seriously.
Here.
Lefty, I never write anything on this blog that I cannot back up factually. Not in the nonfiction section, anyway. Which is, ah, most of the blog.
Its ok to laugh at these dumb bastards, but remember, if one in ten are able to complete their act of terror, the human suffering will be horrendous.
I hope this prompts the Brits to understand what they are facing and take the required actions.
I don’t think lefty was implying that there was no backup, he probably just wanted a link from a well-known source (not that you’re not well known Meryl)
I didn’t think he was. I know he hasn’t been here all that long, and was informing him of something he may not have known.
I agree with Eric and Herschel. Bungled attempts are just steps along the path from initial planning to success. We laugh at them at our own peril.
We can laugh at “stupid criminals” (such as the bank robber who wrote the robbery demand on the back of his pre-printed deposit slip) in order to appreciate the irony. In a sense this is dark or gallows humor.
However part of the “humor” involved is a hearty thank G-d as we realize what we have been saved from.
Herschel – We’ve been dealing with terrorist bombers (IRA, funded in the main by Irish Americans) for over 30 years.
We know exactly what we’re dealing with, but like you, not always with whom.
Did you know that the Glasgow Police were knocking on the bombers’ door 10 minutes before they hit Glasgow Airport?
And mockery is what we do here.
I think what’s bothering me isn’t black humor, but people who belittle the bombers because the bombs didn’t work.
I think that Britons were extremely lucky that the bombers screwed up. Apparently, the bombers were trying to murder as many people as possible with the fuel-air and nail-packed explosions that failed to go off.
Evil. Despicable.
Religion of peace, my ass.
Chairwomen, not to downgrade the terrorism of the IRA, but did they ever purposefully target areas where mass groups of women and children would be victims?
As bad as the IRA ever was, at least they had some sense of human value and would NOT attempt to kill large groups of innocents.
These Muslim terrorists literally rejoice at killing! I am sure that if 500 people were killed and injured their leadership would be handing out candy praising each others actions. These sick bastards even planned for the second bomb to go off during the triage of the first victims to kill and maim as many as possible.
These killers can not be stopped by appeasement, and until this is taken seriously, and the gloves taken off, more and more innocents will die and be maimed.
Herschel – Actually, yes they did. The Arndale Shopping Centre, a huge mall in Manchester; the shopping centre of Warrington; Cheshire, on a Saturday afternoon; Oxford Street in the centre of London during the half-term school holiday; a church parade in Inniskillen, Northern Ireland; various shopping areas in Belfast.
And those are just the ones I remember.
A terrorist is a terrorist is a terrorist. They are immoral and amoral. Their aim is to get their way by use of ‘terror’, and what better way than to terrorise women, children and old folk
It is really disgusting that, doctors are take part in terror attacks.A media report said, Another Indian doctor has been arrested in Britain in connection with the foiled terror attacks in London and Glasgow.
AA Relay Plus
Chairwomen, I agree that all terrorists are evil, however, the magnitude in scale for the Islamic terrorists is beyond anything the IRA was WILLING to do, and precluded by a warning TO EVACUATE. A quick internet search of the Manchester bombing terrorist attack indicated that,
“Although warnings received in the previous hour had allowed the evacuation of the area, 206 people were recorded by the ambulance service as having been injured. Most windows in nearby buildings were blown out, and falling glass caused the majority of the injuries. No one was killed.”
This is completetly different then the psychopathic behaviour we are witnessing by the radical Islamists, who plan a secondary explosion to kill and maim the rescue workers, much less give a warning to evacuate!
Herschel – Now Google Warrington bomb and Inniskillen.
The IRA always took the high moral terrorist ground by telephoning a warning. However, the warnings were so frequently convoluted or just plain wrong, that people still died.
I agree that that radical Islamists are prepared to go to lengths that the IRA wouldn’t. All I’m saying is that we’re a lot more accustomed in the UK, particularly here in London, to the whole ethos of terrorist bombers.
And we are, of course, known for our gallows humour.
Before you dismiss me as being what we call ‘all mouth and trousers’, I saw the Whitehall and Old Bailey bombs go off from my office window, and the bomb that destroyed the flyover (overpass?) at Staples Corner was within one mile of my home, and woke the whole household.
From what I heard, a lot of the calls the IRA made were lies meant to herd police and fire crews into the blast radius of the actual bombs.
The real difference, I think, is that the Brits realized the IRA was scum, and dealt with them as such, but will not let themselves realize the same is true of the Islamists in their midst. The legitimization of the “political” wing of the IRA, the Sinn Fein, was the mistake that has led Britain to the situation where it is now. By teaching people to play the IRA’s “good terrorist / bad terrorist” game, they left themselves with no recourse but to surrender their freedoms to any terrorist group that does the same.
Tatterdemalian – That is all, undoubtedly, true.
