The annual International Eat a Tasty Animal for PETA (IEATAPETA) Day

This post is late this year, but March 15th is still International EATAPETA Day.

That’s right, it’s the day when we piss off the hypocrites at PETA who have the highest kill-rate out of any animal shelter in Virginia; who send their people to lie to vets and shelters and steal animals that they then euthanize, and who create hugely offensive ad campaigns that compare the slaughter of food animals to the slaughter of Jews in the Holocaust.

Yep. It’s EATAPETA Day.

On March 15th, we make sure we eat meat, fish, or dairy products—all the stuff that pisses of the PETA vegans—in protest of PETA’s deceptive and execrable tactics.

You can check out my back posts by clicking on the EATAPETA category, which include cute pictures of kids.

Here’s the the original IEAFPD post:

PETA has started yet another offensive ad campaign. This one really reaches bottom—they are using Holocaust terminology, quotes, and pictures to liken the “slaughter” of animals to the slaughter of the Jews by the Nazis.

I’ve already received a letter from a child of Holocaust survivors who is, of course, extraordinarily offended. But here’s the thing: PETA is known for this kind of outrageous publicity stunt—and that’s what it is, an outrageous publicity stunt—and while I am also offended and outraged, there is absolutely nothing we can do that will make PETA change their ad campaign. I’m sure they knew exactly what they were doing, have a plan in mind, and, if they withdraw the campaign, will do it according to their deadlines and their decisions.

So let’s make up our own outrageous publicity stunt. Let’s designate Saturday, March 15th, as International Eat an Animal for PETA Day. Everybody set the date on your calendar, and either go out and enjoy a great steak, or cook one at home. Or cook up some chicken or fish or anything else that PETA wouldn’t want you to eat.

Create a Meat-up in your own neighborhood. I’m having an early Meat-up with Elisson and SWMBO (I so love that title for a Mrs. I want to be one of those someday) this coming Saturday, as they’re going to be in the area. And I fully expect to be eating meat (it’s what’s for dinner) with some friends next week.

Go and enjoy, and then come back here and tell me all about it.

As a colleague of mine once commented, “If G-d didn’t intend us to eat animals, why did He make them out of meat?”

  2. John M. says:

I believe I shall select a tasty lamb chop.

  3. Elisson says:

No better way the Dinner Hour to greet,
Than with a Plate piled high with tasty Meat.
No matter be it Fowl or Beef or Lamb,
I eat, and to the PETA folks say “Damn!”
I’d rather eat a Chicken or a Duck
Than be a stupid Tofu-Nourished Schmuck.
Yes, give me Beef: a thick and juicy Steak,
That I may thank the Lord that I’m awake!

  4. I’m not going to bother setting up a subdomain this year. Too much hassle for so little response on it, I figure.

  5. I agree, Lair. People can meet up without your help.

  6. Allison says:

How upsetting. I recently blogged about “My PETA Pet Peeve” on my site. You can see it here:

  7. March 15th! This is the day of my big move. I’ve promised everyone pizza afterwards so…I’ll make sure to order at least one pie with plenty of animal flesh!

  8. Rahel says:

Meryl, Laurence, Elisson, there is this incredible meat restaurant here that I would love to introduce you to. And there is this wonderful lady in the open-air market who makes the most wonderful grilled chicken. I intend to enjoy one or the other (probably the latter) in honor of the day.

  9. Sabba Hillel says:

Purim. PETA is a joke and reminds me of Achashveiros. Just as nasty and sneaky using Haman to do his dirty work. Actually, Esther was the victim in all this. Winding up forced to “marry” the king was definitely the booby prize

  10. Rahel says:

Sabba Hillel, exactly! With all respect to the Megillah as the story of the salvation of the Jews throughout the Persian Empire, I also see it as the story of Esther’s tragedy. Poor woman, stuck with that turkey.

    (Mmmmm… turkey!)

  11. Alex Bensky says:

As always, my motto for EATAPETA Day is:
“If it didn’t have a mother, it’s not on my menu.”

As usual, I’ll have turkey sausage for breakfast and–just to show where I stand on this–a burger at McDonald’s for lunch. Dinner will be either lamb or veal, depending on whether at the moment I find cute little lambies or sad-eyed calves to be more appealing.

    Anyone for a Detroit meat-up?

  12. Eric J says:

Meryl, if you’re going to do a Northern Virginia Meat-Up, keep me in the loop, please.

(There’s a Ted’s Montana Grill where I work, which has it’s good and bad points. Good: Unusual meats, like Bison available. Bad: Owned by Ted Turner.)

  13. Sabba Hillel says:

Since March 15th is Shabbos Zachor and one of the requirements of Shabbos is 3 meals, and at least two of them must be full meals with wine and meat, lets really celebrate. Indeed how about a dvar torah comparing PETA and Amalek. Both attempt to destroy a nation by attacking at the weakest point. Both pretend to have a lofty goal but only want to kill.

  14. Kat says:

Anyone in the Brooklyn borough want to do a meat-up? There are some great places in Park Slope or Cobble Hill.

  15. Rahel says:

Oooh, Sabba Hillel, are you ever giving me ideas for a Purim post….

    IEATAPETA on Shabbat Zakhor! Yes!

  16. Houston says:

I think I will set up my own little gathering at home and bar-b-que.

Glad Laurence reminded me. Last time I was in Nashville and had to celebrate in my hotel room.

  17. Anyone interested in a Meat-up in NoVA?

  18. David says:

I’ve created a Facebook event to invite and inform. So, anybody who has facebook, just look for the event Eat a Tasty Animal for PETA Day. Sign up and invite your friends!

  19. Aaron's cc: says:

The only sad thing about this year’s EATAPETA day is that it’s Shabbos, when I usually eat meat, anyway.

I may not roll on Shabbos, but if there’s kosher meat… I’m there, wearing my holiday swag.

This year, I get to enjoy the fact that I have a new son-in-law (as of 3 weeks ago) to enjoy the celebration, which happens annually on my daughter’s birthday.

The Ides of March: a bad day for Caesars and liberal totalitarian (ok, that’s redundant) PETAniks.

  20. Zach says:

The sad thing is that EATAFPD always falls during Lent, a time when many Christians do not eat meat. However, according to long tradition, Sundays are not fast days. And, of course, Sundays begin at sunset the evening before. Therefore, although I am avoiding meat at all other times, when the sun sets I will cook up my famous 6-species chili. Mmmm tasty!
