No wonder there’s now a Facebook group called “I was also a part of the Dubai Assassination Squad.” Because the Arabs are now declaring all of us Jews guilty of being part of assassination squads.
According to Emarat Al Youm, a newspaper published in the United Arab Emirates, Tamim urged Arab countries to thoroughly check any Jewish person who carries a non-Israeli passport in order to “prevent Mossad’s infiltrations”.
Substitute “Islamic” and “Arab” for “Jewish” and “non-Israeli,” and you’d have the United Nations issuing resolutions against Dubai, human rights groups calling for the resignation of the police chief who said such a thing, and the entire world up in arms.
But since he’s talking about a Jewish conspiracy, and he’s an Arab, you will get: Nothing. The naked anti-Semitism of the Arab and Muslim world has been ignored for decades.
I think you’re talking at the end of a long process, one probably extending to the 18th century. And you could probably blame the British for a lot, their cynical strategy for conquest during that former Empire’s heyday. I would point to the beginning of the Wahhabist sect, basically an anti-Shia, anti-Sufi *cult*. The British – who could care less about religious ideology – backed them in their attempts to undermine the Ottomans. Backing a transnational ideology to weaken Muslim and/or Arab states? Works (somewhat) in the short-term, but has been known to backfire.
What I don’t understand is why they are bothering blaming it on the Jews. If the reason is antisemitism then why wouldn’t the same antisemitism make them happy that the attack succeeded? If the conspiracy claims are for foreign consumption they don’t make any sense, who would believe them if they weren’t already antisemitic? I am not saying that the claims have any validity, I’m just not sure how they fit into the overall anti-Israel strategy and I’d be interested in hearing some opinions.
Never mind, I misread what attack the issue was about, my bad. Please delete/ignore previous comment(and this one two)
So, according to Gen. Tamim’s (lack of) logic, someone like Houda Nonoo (the Bahraini Ambassador to the US) would be a suspected Mossad agent.
I’m convinced that the Dubai Chief is no doubt inspired by two of the greatest lawmen ever: Inspector Clouseau and Barney Fife.
Today, we get hitler spoofs. T’marra, we will get Dubai spoofs. (“Hey, Jimmy, did you bring the keys for the lock?” “No. I brought the tennis rackets, you were supposed to bring the keys.”)
