Interestingly, AP continues its nearly-unbiased reporting of events. They almost get the story right in this piece about, uh, six or seven different things under one headline (why do they do that? They’re not bloggers.):
In the West Bank village of Rojib near Nablus, soldiers who apparently thought they had come across a militant hide-out fired at a house. Residents said the shots killed 20-year-old Fawzi Dwekat and his 50-year-old mother. The son was standing guard with a rifle after arson attacks on his family’s cars.
Residents said soldiers shot first, and Dwekat returned fire. But the military said the army patrol was shot at first and returned fire.
Can’t really complain much about that, except, of course, for the ubitquitous “military” instead of a person who was actually, you know, speaking or sending information to the reporter. Oh, and the fact that that information is pretty high up in the lead (fourth paragraph, generally where it gets cuts in the “World News Briefs” in most newspapers). But those are just nits.
Really obvious headline of the day: Pope Gunman Said Unfit for the Military. Gee. Ya think?
This is huge. China and Russia are going to go along with the UN Security Council about Iran shutting down its nuclear “research.” On the other hand, if the resolution is toothless, then this is just business as usual.
Oh, look. Another kassam fired by terrorists. Good to know that they’re interested in peace.
There is No truth to the rumor that Sharon came out of the coma.
Okay, now the picture to this story is just plain wrong. I mean, it’s not a very funny thing, getting stabbed. Okay, so he wasn’t really stabbed, but really, to hold a knife to a person’s throat just because he tells you your feet stink? I mean, is there anyone out there who has not been told their feet stink? But still–the picture is just wrong.
Now go get your own news. My Gilmore Girls marathon must continue, after a dinner break.
If it says AP at the top, it must be true!
