The evolution of a whitewash

The AP simply cannot bring itself to call the upset in Gaza what it is: Rioting, anarchy, the prelude to civil war–and so we get pablum like this:

Fatah Activists Demand Change in Party

RAMALLAH, West Bank (AP) – Fatah activists marched to Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas’ compound, police briefly stormed the parliament building in Gaza and security forces clashed with Hamas gunmen on Saturday as the long-ruling party lashed out in anger for its devastating election loss.

Fears over the future of the security forces under a Hamas-led government added to the chaos.

Don’t you just love that last line? Fears over their future “added to the chaos.” But, you didn’t describe any chaos. Wait, do you mean this chaos?

NABLUS, West Bank (AP) – Thousands of angry activists from the defeated Fatah Party demanded their leaders’ resignations, Palestinian police stormed a parliament building in Gaza and other security forces clashed with Hamas gunmen – signs of growing instability following Hamas’ victory in parliamentary election.

Fatah gunmen climbed on top of the Palestinian parliament building in Ramallah, fired in the air and posted a picture of the late leader Yasser Arafat on the roof to cheers and whistles from hundreds of supporters below. Dozens of armed police officers briefly stormed the building in Gaza City and demanded an immediate trial for Hamas members who killed police in fighting in recent months.

Or maybe this chaos?

Fatah Activists Protest Party Corruption

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) – Thousands of Fatah supporters burned cars and shot in the air across the Gaza Strip on Friday, demanding the resignation of corrupt party officials and insisting there be no coalition between their defeated party and the victorious Hamas.

Notice how they are “protesting,” “marching,” and now, “demanding change.”

Funny, they still all look like lawlessness and rioting to me. Rule of law? In Gaza? Shyeah, right. More of the legacy of the thugocrat-in-chief, Yasser Arafat.

Countdown to blaming Israel: Two days so far (with the exception of the Times editiorial).

    Gang war. Ugly.

One minor hope, Bush said we should not deal with a government that denied a whole people the right to exist. Of course, that was pre-election, and disregarded some other actions elsewhere – but the various flavors of PA are the only ones (well, recently Iran) to make it plain, and Hamas the first to propose outright genocide in writing. Even the Nasties made some attempt to hide their program, and Sudan is still denying any government backing of their own race war.

All those guys on the Fatah payroll are afraid that they wil “lose their grub,” as they say in some African countries of a person who gets fired from his gummint job. Maybe Hamas’ suggestion of a Pali army is intended to mop up these now unemployed gangsters and put them to work towards Hamas’ goal, genocide of the Jews.
