You simply have to just shake your head and wonder how these editors sleep at night. Look at the latest AP story about Human Rights Watch calling out Hezbullah for using cluster bombs in civilian areas, and contrast it to the stories about civilian casualties in Lebanon.
Let’s start with the headline.
Group: Hezbollah Fired Cluster Bombs
What group would that be? The McLaughlin Group? A group of people standing around talking about cluster bombs?
BEIRUT, Lebanon (AP) – A rights group reported Thursday for the first time that Hezbollah fired cluster bombs at civilian areas in northern Israel during their summer war, although the number of strikes was a fraction of what Israel dropped on Lebanon.
Oh, a rights group. And check out the words in bold. Yeah, Hezbullah dropped cluster bombs, but not nearly as many as Israel did, so, like, don’t you get it? Israel is evil! Evil! EVIL!
Human Rights Watch said in a report that three Israeli civilians were injured when at least two cluster munitions landed between three homes in the Galilee village of Maghar on July 25.
Finally, in the second pagraph, we find out who the group is. Funny, isn’t it, that it wasn’t in the opening graf?
And of course, we must also condemn Israel, since we’re slapping Hezbullah on the wrist.
The New York-based group and the United Nations have accused Israel of firing as many as 4 million cluster munitions into Lebanon, leaving unexploded ordnance that still threatens Lebanese civilians. Since the Israel-Hezbollah war ended Aug. 14, these duds have killed 20 Lebanese civilians and wounded 120 others, most of them children.
Say, does that remind you of anything at all? Why, it would be this article, where Amnesty International came out and condemned Hezbullah of war crimes and the wire services never used the words “war crimes” in their articles—except for the ones accusing Israel of war crimes.
No, there’s no anti-Israel bias in the media. It’s our imagination.
