Ubiquitous commenter Alex Bensky sent Judith Weiss and me this email:
Today is UN Day, as you probably know, Meryl and Judith. How did you mark the occasion? I did so appropriately.
First, I just wasted a lot of money. Then I happened on a scene where a crime was in progress but I just shook my head, muttered, “They shouldn’t do that,” and went by. Finally I insulted some Jews. I would have stolen some money but the opportunity didn’t present itself.
Had I only known, I’d have done the same. Thanks for letting us know, Alex!
I promised to give a lot of people a lot of money and then told other more wealthy people to give those people money, and when they did I took credit for it.
A more effective reply to the criminal would have been to say, “If you continue, serious consequences will result.” That always stops the bad guys.
