Challenge wanted

Hokay. My birthday approaches. (Wednesday, if you must know.) As I am no longer as young as I was, I tend to try to do things on my birthdays that challenge me and make me feel younger. For instance, a few years ago, I went indoor rock climbing. I am terrified of heights. It led to my getting a job there and climbing regularly.

Next year, I am having my adult Bat Mitzvah.

This year, I don’t really know what to do. I was thinking maybe Laser Tag, which was quite a hoot at Jake’s birthday last year (and exercise, too!). But it’s not really leaping out and grabbing me.

It’s too cold to go rafting or kayaking. I no longer drink more than a glass of wine or so, so partying all night is out. Boy, is it out.

I had this problem last year, too. I need to look through the Yellow Pages and see what’s around.

Do they have a listing for “Fun”?

Right, the Ides of November. I knew it was sometime about now…. I know this because I remember you turned 30 just about the time I turned 25, so seeing that I just turned —- hmmm…Why do I get this sense of foreboding of impeding doom should I finish that sentence….?

Happy B-day Meryl. How about some loud rock and roll? Or a fancy dinner out?
Whatever you do, enjoy your special day.

Despite reading your blog for two years, I think it would be presumptuous of me to suggest what you should do for your birthday. However, I can hit the tip jar again.

  4. I won a gift voucher from work that I could have frittered away on Amazon books. Instead I bought myself a 45 min flight in a 1938 Tiger Moth. The pilot proudly showed me the date on the tail plate (though I’m really hoping that most of the parts had actually been replaced by now!).

I did most of the flying and it was a hoot :-) Best part was looking down into the £5m+ homes and gardens we flew over out to the west of London.

How about an indoor water park that has all them slides and wave machines and stuff.

I went with my nieces and had a blast.

    Well, happy birthday!

If the weather cooperates, a hot air balloon ride is a great pleasure.

  7. Hey, we have an indoor water park. Now that’s an idea.

So is the hot air balloon ride, actually. I wouldn’t go up in a plane, but I think I’d do that.

No, probably not. Fear of heights thing.

Get a friend, find the nearest indoor shooting range and go hava a blast! Happy Birthday!

  9. Hugh says:

You like heights. Have you considered skydiving or bunjee jumping? Happy almost birthday.

  10. Jim, I think you’ve got it.

There’s a shooting range five minutes from here, a rather infamous one. The store used to sell to gunrunners from NY/NJ before the gun laws changed.

But I think shooting is a great idea.
