About that claim of arrogance…

Yeah, Gorilla Boy is at it again.

Iran’s hardline president said Saturday that Britain and its allies were “arrogant and selfish” for not apologizing over what he called the incursion of 15 captured British sailors and marines into Iranian waters.

President Bush described the 15 Britons as “hostages” in his first comments on the capture and said their seizure was “inexcusable,” calling for their release.

[…] Britain, meanwhile, appeared to be easing its stance, emphasizing its desire to talk with Iran about what it termed a regrettable situation.

“We continue to express our willingness to engage in dialogue and discussions with Iran,” Foreign Secretary Margaret Beckett said at a European Union summit in Bremen, Germany. I think everyone regrets that this position has arisen … What we want is a way out of it.”

Iran appeared unreceptive.

“Instead of apologizing over trespassing by British forces, the world arrogant powers issue statements and deliver speeches,” the country’s official news agency quoted Ahmadinejad as saying.

The Lion of Britain has become a pussycat.

Witness:

Most Britons oppose immediate military action to free 15 navy personnel detained in Iran, and believe the government will resolve the crisis peacefully, a poll released Saturday suggests.

Only 8 percent of respondents to the survey for the Sunday Telegraph newspaper said Britain should prepare to use military force at this stage, nine days into the crisis. Asked if force should be used as a last resort, 48 percent were opposed and 44 percent in favor.

Wow. So glad I’m not living in the U.K., for so many reasons. No use of force? Not even as a last resort? What the hell happened to “Rule Britannia”?

That’s just sad.

They obviously didn’t ask anyone I know, of any age or political colour.

Of course, if they were doing it correctly, they would keep pretending to be run by Dhimmi Carter up until the Royal Marines took the hostages and returned to Britain. That way would be left with the remains of his bacon and eggs all over his face.

Meryl I think Neville Chamberlain’s spirit is moving in Great Britain .

  4. Chris L. says:

It’s worse than Neville really. What he did was inexcusable, but one can assume that because WWI was in living memory, many Brits wanted to avoid a repeat. Of course what they got was something worse.

It’s also bad, as Mark Steyn has often pointed out, because at least Hitler went through the formality of diplomacy. Ahmedinejad(sp?) doesn’t even do that. He gives the whole world the finger, and everyone accepts it. He takes hostages and shows them on television, and still you get poll results like this one. Sad.

Keep teaching people to hate themselves long enough and they’ll eventually start to believe it. I think many Britons are trying to curl up into the human equivalent of a tiny ball, hoping to be more and more inoffenisve until they eventually disappear. Mental suicide as atonement for the crime of existence…or perhaps the crime of prosperity. Depends who’s doing the harangueing^H^H^H^Hteaching.
