When I get back tonight, we can (hopefully) discuss how many things are wrong with this story from the Iranian news agency site:
Iranian Jews Ready to Defend National Interests
Tehran, April 1, IRNAThe Association of Iranian Jews here on Sunday renewed its commitment to defend the national interests of Iranians with the advent of the Iranian new year (1386), which the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution declared to be year of “national unity and Islamic solidarity.”
The association renewed its commitment in a message issued on the threshold of the Jewish religious festival of the Passover, which starts Monday night.“In obedience to the instructions of Jesus, in the new Iranian year, which has been declared year of national unity and Islamic solidarity, Iranian Jews voice their readiness to defend all national interests of Iranians and to observe the guidelines set by Supreme Leader (Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei) for the sake of strengthening national unity and solidarity in the fight against present-day pharaohs,” the message said.
It further said that Iranian Jews gave significance to the remarkable coincidence of the Passover festival with the advent of the Iranian new year.
Pesach (Passover) begins on the night of the 15th day of the month of Nissan. This annual Jewish festival celebrates the escape of Jews from the slaughter of the first-born in Egypt.
Okay. Let’s find the errors. First, of course, is the supposed reference by Jews to Jesus. Uh-huh. Sure. Next, we have Jews committing to defending an Islamic theocracy—voluntarily, without force being applied. Uh-huh. Did you know that Iranian Jews cannot leave Iran? Nope. No emigration allowed.
Next we have the supposed amazement at the coincidence of Pesach falling on the same day as the Iranian new year. Yawn. Shyeah. Because we care that they’re on the same day.
And finally, we have the mischracterization of Pesach.
Okay. Your turn. Find any I missed, but, um, you’ll have to email me unless you’re patient enough to wait for me to get some time to figure out why the database is only recognizing the main page and nothing else.
I wish someone in the media had the balls to publicly remind the Iranians that their patrons Hamas decided to celebrate Passover by bombing the seder at the Park Hotel in Netanya in 2002.
The Iranians have a genius for taking hostages.
In their Jewish minority, they have some 25,000 hostages right there…
I happened to be looking ahead at the calendar yesterday and noticed that this year, Rosh Hashanah and Ramadan begin on the same day.
That makes me nervous, except for the fact that terrorists have almost never shown any interest in timing their attacks on important days to Jews. (The Passover massacre was an exception, and I think that was simply because there was a crowd at the hotel. They didn’t care if it was a Seder or a wedding.)
