How the poll is shaking out so far

A substantial number of you are ignoring the poll (be still my heart; I never would have suspected that), but if the remainder are fairly representative of my readers (and that’s a big if, but it’s the only if we have to go by), then here is how things look so far:

A substantial number of my readers are Jewish, as I suspected, but as I also knew, a large minority is Christian. And very few of you are Christian Zionists. Gee. Go figure. The conventional wisdom is wrong about Christian Zionists, too. Who knew? (Okay, we did, but still…)

Results of religion question

What surprised me is the percentage of Conservative Jews who read this blog. Yes, I’m Conservative, but there are fewer of us than there are of the other two denominations.

More Conservative Jews

The overwhelming majority (59%) of my readers consider themselves centrists. That would be because the overwhelming majority of Americans consider themselves centrists. Several of you have asked me to break out the poll into social and political issues. I will do that when I get the chance.

Mostly centrist readers

This one didn’t surprise me at all, which is why I added the second answer for why you read: I have a lot of readers who hate cat posts.

Cat lovers and haters

Sorry, folks, but sometimes, you simply have to post kitty pictures. They’re staying. As for the rest, I’m starting to think you guys really, really don’t want me to change the formula. The answer to what I should change around here:

Don't change a thing

Hm. I think the humor may be heading over to Hot Air for a while, because I’ve always been a visual writer, and I’m finally getting a chance to express some of the things I see in my head. But some will spill over to here, I’m sure.

By the way, if you haven’t taken the poll, please do. I know how many of you read me every day, and so far, the poll-takers are in single-digits of the percentage of people who read. Geez. You could at least bump it up to 10%.

Meryl, your poll is one of the more annoying ones I’ve ever taken. I had to “vote” on each individual question, then go back to your page for the next one.

Unless, of course, you wanted to see just how many of your readers would put up with the annoyance to give you their feedback…

  2. I didn’t know that, Jay. I didn’t take the poll. I just assumed it would let you vote and that would be the end of it.

Well, I’m going to check out the homemade polls on Fantastico and do some programming myself for the next one.

If you want someone who will eat whatever you put in front of him and never says its not quite as good as his mother made it, then buy a dog.

If you want someone always willing to go out, at any hour, for as long and wherever you want, then buy a dog.

If you want someone who will never touch the remote, doesn’t care about football, and can sit next to you as you watch romantic movies, then buy a dog.

If you want someone who is content to get up on your bed just to warm your feet and whom you can push off if he snores, then buy a dog !

If you want someone who never criticizes what you do, doesn’t care if
you are pretty or ugly, fat or thin, young or old, who acts as if every word you say is especially worthy of listening to, and loves you unconditionally, perpetually, then buy a dog.

But, on the other hand, if you want someone who will never come when you call, ignores you totally when you come home, leaves hair all over the place, walks all over you, runs around all night and only comes home to eat and sleep, and acts as if your entire existence is solely to ensure his happiness, then buy a cat!

Personally, I’d also like to have seen a question regardging the nationalities of your readers – how many are Americans, howm many are Israelis (like me), how many Brits, etc.

Oddly enough I found myself voting for the “winner” group in every question. Technically speaking I’m Orthodox, but I feel almost no kinship to this branch of Judaism and would’ve passed into moderate Conservativism had my State of Israel officially acknowledged it. Since they don’t I can only define myelf as Conservative while I’m still forced to act on Orthodoxy’s code – one of the main reasons I’m angry with the Covervative and Reform movements is that they took an anti-Zionist stance for decades out of petty reasons, and so completely abandoned the Israeli religious institution to the Modern Orthodox and the Haredim. Now both movements try to strike roots with Israelis, but the Orthdoxy is so entrenched it’s an uphill battle.

  5. The overwhelming majority of my readers are American. I don’t need the poll for that. My web statistics can tell me.

I think most Israelis are reading Israeli blogs.
