Hassan Nasrallah, safe in an undisclosed, secure location, the man who had to enter Syria via a tunnel for a Dictator’s Club conference, is bragging yet again about how he beat the pants off Israel in last year’s Lebanon war.
“Baalbek is the home front of the resistance and is not in the front, but in the July war it turned into the front through the landings carried out by the Israeli army.
“We did not promise to thwart these landings. We are realistic and did not exaggerate in what we said. We are aware of our abilities, but we were determined to fight everywhere.
“For example, in southern Lebanon there were many landings and we fought them, like we did in Tyre. In one of the landings our people killed a senior paratroopers officer. There were places where there were landings of large forces and we do not deny this, but they failed anyway.
This is the man who said that had he known the Israeli response would be so harsh, he would never have kidnapped Eldad Regev and Ehud Goldwasser.
The big question, of course, is what’s with all the speeches by Nasrallah? This is number four in two weeks. So, what happened two weeks ago? The Dictator’s Club met in Syria to get their marching orders from Ahmadinejad.
Once again, I am not an analyst of any sort. I simply look for connections between events. That’s the way I think. There is always a reason behind a speech such as this, and four speeches in two weeks, when Nasrallah has been mostly silent, means something. And I don’t like what I think it means.
And while all this is going on, the UN has issued a strongly-worded statement “deploring” the refusal of Hizbollah to release the soldiers, as instructed to in UNSC 1701. And by “strongly-worded” I mean “toothless and meaningless” and by “statement” I mean “blahblahblah.”
And that is why Nasrallah, Assad, and Ahmadinejad threaten Israel with impunity. Because there is no consequence to their actions, unless Israel acts on them. The date to watch for: Just before the UN starts the official Hariri inquiry. That, I think, is when the rockets will be lobbed at Israel.
The UN is an organization with almost no power and lesser resolve to do the right thing Meryl !!
