I have a 1987 gold American Eagle proof set, with certificate of authenticity, that I’d like to sell and I’m trying to decide: Quick way via coin dealer, or slower way via eBay?
Proceeds are going to go to my closing costs.

I know little about coins, but I would suggest getting an quote from a few coin dealers. Then search eBay to see what similar sets from other people have sold for.
This way, you can see how much (if anything) you stand to gain from going the eBay route, and whether you think it is worth the time and aggravation.
Best bet is eBay – most coin dealers will only give you 65%-70% of whatever the spot price is that day. Markup in PM is horrendous…
Think back to every stupid thing sold on eBay that made the news and you thought to yourself “They paid HOW MUCH for that POS”? Gold closed around $910 today…you could make that and more on eBay w/o breaking a sweat…
Yeah, but when I sold my gold coins six years ago, dealers were giving spot plus 10-20%. I think 20. Anyway, this is an ounce and a half bullion proof set. It’s selling for a nice price on eBay.
I’m just really glad I found it. I hid it so well I forgot where I put it. Took me a while to dig up the gold. Heh.
