Meryl, the following is my diplomatic effort:
President Bush:
I am writing in regards to Israel’s latest effort to defend herself against enemies that have sworn her destruction and implemented every foul scheme possible in their efforts to visit that destruction upon the innocent.
Despite the global media’s anti-Israel bias and failure to report the daily crimes of Hamas and the Palestinian terrorists, people are starting to figure things out, and even Egypt is left with little recourse but to state that this is Hamas’s own fault.
So I beg you to please not interfere with Israel doing what she must do to protect her people and preserve her existence. We are all of us “infidels” in a battle for survival, and shamefully there are too few governments or peoples willing to fight this war. Most are too concerned about their PR on the fabled and over-respected Arab Street and our local fools so disconnected from history and reality that they believe they can well-wish all threats into submission. I pray you will rise above this suicidal tendency.
I hope that you will take this as an opportunity to educate the country and the West of the perils we face and of the justness and necessity of strong military response to terrorist actions. You have fought hard in the misnamed GWOT, but you have still to offer a clarion call to oppose Islamist tyranny, to identify it and define it and offer prescriptions for it’s defeat. Your successor never will even consider such a thing, but you truly should.
Again, please, stop tying Israel’s hands. She has suffered continual insult far more patiently than any nation on earth would do; she is in endless peril with enemies that have proven time after time that they wish only her destruction; she deserves to defend herself, and we shame ourselves by standing in her way.
