A shoddily built floor in an UNRWA school collapsed. Instead of blaming the crappy construction, the Palestinians have found the real reason the floor collapsed: Discrimination by Jews, as well as “settlers” digging under the Western Wall.
Several students were lightly injured and three suffered shock when a classroom floor crumbled beneath their feet in an UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees) girls’ school in Jerusalem’s Old City.
[…] One of the residents, Ala, whose cousin was hurt in the incident and evacuated to the hospital, offered his own explanation. “It’s because the settlers are digging into the Western Wall,” he told Ynet. “They dig under the earth and the Jerusalem Municipality is helping them.”
Ala also complained that east Jerusalem residents were constantly discriminated against. “The State doesn’t care for us, and this school is an example. No one cares about the Arab residents.”
Raleb, whose daughter was in the classroom, also blamed the settlers for illegally digging under the school. “This really makes us angry. The settlers are digging under the classrooms, causing people to get hurt. Look how angry all the people here are.”
Yes, that’s right. Whenever anything bad happens, feel free to make shit up as long as you blame the Jews for it. The real reason the floor collapsed?
Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat arrived at the school immediately after hearing about the incident.
“This was caused by sloppy construction,” he told Ynet. “It’s clear that whoever built this place did not do it properly. This is a classic engineering problem.
“Under the floor was a space built on logs which rotted and could not stand the load. The floor was weak, and this caused its collapse. The whole building must be rebuilt so that such an incident does not repeat itself, God forbid.”
This is not the first example of shoddy construction in Jerusalem,, but thankfully, it wasn’t remotely as bad. And that terrible dance hall collapse caused the city to stop overlooking the graft that allowed shoddy construction. Also, please note that the mayor of Jerusalem immediately blamed the builder and expressed the intent to rebuild the school and make sure this never happens again.
Yes, Israel has to work a little harder on Arab areas. But Israelis are working on fixing that. It probably would go a lot easier if Israeli Arabs weren’t passing along crazy conspiracy theories every time something like this occurs.
Exit note: I’d sure like to know if the school was built by UNRWA, or just maintained by the organization. I wonder if there will be a UN investigation into this. Probably not unless they can blame Israel for it.
I doubt if the UN had any direct involvment in the school, since there are no reports of any of the girls having been raped.
