Iran is supposedly preparing for an attack on its nuclear sites.
Saudi daily ‘Al-Watan’ is reporting that over the past several weeks Iran’s Revolutionary Guard has deployed several mobile surface-to-air and anti-ship missile batteries in the Strait of Hormuz and other areas in the Persian Gulf.
The paper attributed to the information to a high-ranking Iranian official. The source added that the decision to deploy the missile batteries was made following recent “secret reports” indicating the United States and Israel are preparing to attack Iran’s nuclear facilities.
According to the official, Tehran alerted neighboring Arab states of the move and stressed that it should not be seen as an act of aggression against them.
Several things come to mind about this. First, it could be Iranian propaganda, like the Photoshopped missile launch. Second, if those are Russian-made missiles like, say, Iran bought for Syria, well, Israel knocked out their anti-aircraft capabilities when she bombed the Syrian reactor location. And last, well, I don’t think Obama is about to authorize anyone to bomb Iran at any point in his presidency. Unless he’s just really good at covering up his goals on Iran.
I’m going to go with propaganda here. They may well be putting anti-aircraft batteries in the Gulf. But I don’t think they’re worried about an American attack. But of course, it is an election year in Iran. And nothing succeeds like reporting threats from the Great Satan and the Little Satan.
