If this were a law in America, most single man would have prison records: Lying for sex is against the law in Israel? Since when, 1000 BCE? Really, people. This is a ridiculous law. It’s another stone that will be used in the wall to delegitimize the Jewish state.
Oh, goodie! Hamas draftees will run away from the IDF in the next war: Yes, Hamas is discussing a draft. Will you hear howls of anger from the Palestinian defenders? Will you hear the argument from Israelis that since Hamas will be drafting Palestinians, everyone is a legitimate target? Of course not. What are you, crazy?
Neo-nazis feeling the hate: The state of world anti-Semitism is rising, and the Jew-haters are increasing their activities. They vandalized a Maryland synagogue with anti-Semitic graffiti and Nazi slogans. Well, since Jew-hate has become an arm of the Hollywood elite, and since Israel-hate has become an arm of the left, expect more of the same.
I must be one of the few who side with the Israeli courts with this one. A crime by deception is still a crime. If this guy is innocent then so is the scam artist who takes $87,000 dollars from the nice old lady to prune her trees.
Empress – my problem with it is that he wasn’t convicted for running a scam – it’s that he was convicted of *rape*. That’s wrong. The sleaze lied to her and deceived her to get what he wanted, then abandoned her the second he did, but that’s. Not. Rape. To say otherwise would be to cheapen the genuine suffering rape victims go through. The woman agreed to have sex. No one forced her or coerced her. Yes, she agreed under false information, but that doesn’t make it “retroactive rape”. Or is every man (or woman for that matter) who fib to get into someone else’s pants a rapist as well?
Yes, he was running a scam, and if he should be convicted of anything it should be of that, but I don’t even know how someone *could* be convicted for something like this, since unlike your example, he didn’t walk away with any of her belongings.
