Letter from a caveman

You know, the title “Caveman” on an email automatically kicks in my spam detector. But it was from some guy with a normal-sounding name, and I figured I’d take a look at it and see if it was legit.

This is what it said:

Hi Meryl. My name is John Lehr and I play one of the Geico cavemen. I saw on your site that you like the commercials. I’m doing two more but they haven’t aired yet. I think they should start running them in the next few weeks.

If you liked the cavemen spots, I think you might like ‘10 Items or Less’ which airs on TBS (yes TBS) this fall. I act, write and produce the show. I’m very proud of it so I’m trying to get the word out. Oh, and did I mention I’m Jewish?

Check www.johnlehr.com for more info.

Thanks,
john

Okay, now raise hands, other bloggers, who have ever gotten an email from a Geico caveman. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

And he’s funny. Check out his comedic lectures. “Tolerance” made me start my day with a laugh.

I got an email from a Geico caveman. That will be my meme for the day at work.

    Way to go, Meryl! Woo-hoo!

  2. When he has to negotiate a contract, does he use a Jewish lawyer, caveman lawyer, unfrozen caveman lawyer, or a Jewish caveman lawyer?

  3. chsw says:

Perhaps a new boyfriend, if you like hairy guys, Meryl.

  4. Nope. Married. Biggest turn-off, in my opinion.

Well, except for Hugh Jackman. He can be married and my boyfriend. I won’t mind.

  5. Hugh says:

    The cavemen are great.

I think Geico has a brilliant advertising agency. I’ve been listening to, and watching their ads for years, and I’ve never spotted a boring one.

Meryl, maybe the other caveman is available.

  6. Cro Magnon cannot wait for new commercial!

  7. iamfelix says:

How cool! I love the Cavemen spots, too. Thanks for sharing that.

  8. A Steve says:

That’s awesome. My wife and I are big fans of those commercials.

Laurence: That’s a really good question.

  9. Michael Lonie says:

All of you who loved the Caveman commercials, did they persuade you to switch to Geico?

I still prefer to buy Energizer batteries on account of the Energizer Bunny commercials I saw. Highlarious. Now commercials have no effect on me, because I never watch TV.

I’ve been with Geico for as long as I’ve had a car, and I’ll admit, the commercials are the main reason. They didn’t have the caveman commercials back then, but the squirrel commercial was what hooked me. Geico commercials were, and apparently still are, more clever and funny that most of the TV shows in production today. I might actually go out and get TV service again, just so I can see the commercials without having to futz with downloading video streams.

And, of course, they really have saved me nearly 15% on car insurance.
