The JIB awards

The Jewish and Israeli blogger awards winnowing process begins today. Preliminary voting is going to narrow down the fields. I’m in three categories: Best Post, Best Israel Advocacy, and Best Personal Blog. If I had my druthers, it’d be Post and Advocacy–I don’t feel that I post enough personal information for this blog to be a personal weblog.

Make that Best Overall Blog, a category I am definitely interested in winning. (Thanks, Snoopy.)

I don’t think I’m going to pull out a win this year, though. The big-traffic blogs are in the Advocacy category. There are a couple I don’t think belong there who will make it impossible for the low-profile Jewish and Israeli blogs to win, but that’s a story for another time. Except that I don’t believe those blogs should be in the category, as I don’t believe that Israel advocacy is their theme–only their sometime-recurring topic.

Which is not to say that I still don’t want to try to win. I was greatly surprised to hear my rabbi mention my blog and the JIB awards during announcements on Friday. It reminded me that yeah, I do have an ego. I want to win.

  1. Correction: you are also in the “Best overall” category. With you know who’s help we shall see…

And who says a person should apologize for an ego?

  2. anon says:

The voting rules state that you are only allowed to vote once every three days. TEXT ON HOW TO CHEAT THE VOTE REMOVED

Now, just to help us help you, above and beyond the ego thing, why do you want to win so badly? Who do you see as your main competition? How else can we help?

  3. You can help me by not cheating. I do not want to win by cheating. Not. Ever.

  4. FYI, Dave told me that they expect the kind of cheating that was originally in the comment above, and will adjust the votes accordingly.

  5. Tovya says:

yeah but cheating really doesn’t make you feel better. at least i know i will lose, but i feel good about making the list period. your blog is certainly desreving, and i am glad to see that you made were nominated.

Dave was nice enough to address my own question, about guys in Lander voting – will they discount each other? I’m glad they’re on top of this.
